I am hearing horrible reports of terrible mistreatment of people put into “detention” for being immigrants whether or not they have legal status. There is an appalling report of a 3year old girl being separated from her mother and sexually abused. This is unspeakable! There is a report of a 19 year old on a legal path to citizenship who has been detained even after her family was released. She is a bright light, working while attending and graduating from high school. Working as a (badly needed) CNA and aiming to become a nurse. She is being held in terrible conditions for no reason. The only reason is to make money for the private prison contractors holding her and so many others. This must stop! The vast majority of Americans abhor this! We don’t want to be incarcerating and abusing innocent people! Shut down these detention centers! We have plenty of prison space for the real “worst of the worst.” The vast majority of detainees have NO criminal record. They are being detained so that private contractors can charge for housing them. This is cruel and corrupt.
