I am writing to respectfully urge you to oppose the Big Beautiful Bill. While it may be presented as a bold reform, it poses a serious threat to the separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution.
The bill grants the President sweeping rule-making authority, bypassing the legislative process and weakening the role of Congress. Article I, Section 1 of the Constitution is clear: “All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States.” Delegating broad lawmaking power to the executive undermines this foundational principle and reduces Congress to a consultative body, rather than the primary engine of our democratic process.
The bill also threatens the role of the judiciary. Under Article III, Section 1, the judicial branch is established as a co-equal interpreter of the law. By enabling the executive branch to effectively rewrite or reinterpret laws through administrative action, this bill risks neutralizing the courts’ ability to provide meaningful checks on executive power.
As a Christian and a citizen, I believe government should be just, accountable, and operate under the rule of law. Ethically, I believe laws should be followed as written—not bent or bypassed by those in power. History teaches us that the erosion of institutional limits is often a first step toward authoritarianism. No president—of any party—should have unchecked authority.
The Founders designed our system with tension and debate in mind. That’s not dysfunction; it’s a safeguard. Preserving those checks is more important than pursuing efficiency at the expense of constitutional order.
Please uphold your oath to defend the Constitution by rejecting this dangerous overreach. The strength of our democracy depends on it.
