Enact arms embargo, facilitate peace in Israeli-Palestinian conflict
A destructive cycle of violence continues to engulf the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, fueled by escalating tensions and the influx of weapons. The indiscriminate bombardment of civilian areas in Gaza is an unacceptable violation of human rights and international law. The loss of innocent lives, including numerous children, is a tragedy that demands urgent action. As your constituent, I implore you to take a principled stance against this escalating violence. A comprehensive arms embargo must be enacted to prevent further bloodshed and create the conditions necessary for meaningful negotiations towards a just and lasting peace. Merely calling for a ceasefire without addressing the root causes will only perpetuate the cycle of violence. Continuing to provide military aid and weapons to Israel while it carries out these disproportionate attacks undermines our nation's commitment to human rights and erodes our moral standing on the global stage. It is time to prioritize the lives of civilians over political expediency. October 7th happened as a result to illegal occupation of Palestinian land, it didn’t just happen out of a coconut tree— there is context. The context being the Nakba, the violent ethnic cleansing, displacement and stealing of land. There will always be resistance efforts as long as indigenous people are occupied.
I firmly believe that a resolutely anti-war stance, coupled with sustained diplomatic efforts, offers the best path towards resolving this protracted conflict. Until decisive action is taken to halt the flow of arms and demand accountability for violations of international law, my vote for you when you run for re election will remain contingent upon your commitment to pursuing a just and peaceful resolution.
