**Oppose Federal Takeover of State Election Administration** I am writing to urge you to publicly oppose and take legislative action against President Trump's proposal to federally control voting in at least 15 locations across the United States, including Philadelphia, Detroit, and Atlanta. This proposal, announced on February 2, 2026, in the Oval Office, represents an unprecedented federal overreach into state election administration. The U.S. Constitution grants states primary control over election administration. Election attorney Marian Schneider has stated that the president has zero authority to implement such a takeover. Constitutional precedent severely limits federal authority in this area, making this proposal not only dangerous but legally unsupportable. The White House's citation of the SAVE Act does not provide legitimate grounds for seizing control of state-run elections. This proposal emerged approximately one week after the FBI seized ballots and records in Fulton County, Georgia, and is rooted in continued unsubstantiated claims about the 2020 election. Michigan's governor has already vowed that a federal takeover will not happen on her watch. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senator Rand Paul, and Fulton County officials have all committed to legal challenges. Beyond the constitutional concerns, this move carries substantial political consequences. Recent polling data described by political analyst Rick Wilson as a bloodbath for the GOP suggests voters are rejecting this approach. Your constituents deserve to know that their state's election processes will remain under state control, as the Constitution intended. I urge you to publicly oppose this proposal, support any legislative measures that protect state authority over elections, and join the growing bipartisan coalition defending constitutional election administration. Our democracy depends on the separation of powers and state sovereignty that this proposal threatens to undermine.
