Seeing the Artemis II mission has brought out something I haven’t felt in a long time: the same sense of wonder and curiosity I had as a kid. Over the past week, I’ve been reminded just how powerful space exploration can be, not just scientifically, but personally and collectively.
One of the most meaningful aspects of human spaceflight is what astronauts often describe as the overview effect. After seeing Earth from above, they return with a profound realization: how small and fragile our planet is, and how deeply connected we all are. It’s a perspective shift that transcends politics, borders, and differences.
As we prepare to return humans to the Moon through the Artemis program, I’m excited about the technological and scientific advancements this will bring. But just as importantly, I believe the broader value lies in the inspiration and perspective it creates here on Earth. By continuing to explore outward, we give ourselves the opportunity to better understand what we already have, and what we stand to lose.
That’s why I’m asking you to support strong, sustained funding for NASA and to advocate for policies that prioritize human space exploration. Investments in space are investments in innovation, education, economic growth, and a shared sense of purpose that’s increasingly rare.
Programs like Artemis don’t just push the boundaries of science, they remind us of who we are and what we can achieve together.
Thank you for your time and for your service. I hope you’ll continue to support the exploration efforts that inspire not just discovery, but a deeper connection to our world and each other.
