Protect forests, mitigate climate change, preserve biodiversity

To: Sen. Fetterman, Pres. Trump, Rep. Meuser, Sen. McCormick

March 3

The proposed increase in logging of national forests is deeply concerning from an environmental standpoint. Forests play a vital role in sequestering carbon dioxide, maintaining biodiversity, and regulating the water cycle. Cutting down swaths of these precious natural areas would exacerbate climate change, endanger numerous species, and potentially disrupt water supplies for millions of Americans. Rather than expanding logging operations, we should prioritize preserving and restoring our remaining old-growth forests. These ancient ecosystems harbor some of the largest and most carbon-rich trees on the planet, making them invaluable assets in mitigating global warming. Additionally, protecting intact forests helps safeguard the habitats of endangered species like grizzly bears, spotted owls, and wild salmon. Instead of relying on destructive and unsustainable practices, we should explore alternative sources of timber and promote more eco-friendly building materials. Investing in sustainable forestry practices, reforestation efforts, and innovative technologies could provide economic opportunities while simultaneously safeguarding our natural heritage. The looming threat of climate change demands bold action to protect and preserve our remaining forests, not further exploitation. I urge you to reconsider this misguided executive order and work towards policies that prioritize environmental stewardship and a sustainable future for generations to come.
