You have a fine list of demands for funding DHS, but they are the bare minimum of what should be demanded. You CANNOT GIVE ONE INCH. Your demands should also be more aggressive. We need much more, so why not start from the position of abolishing ICE and compromising on much more stringent reforms? And note, we should just abolish ICE. Period. They are a bunch of overweight, poorly trained goons running around in jeans with Glocks and assault rifles. But I realize that is unlikely while Republicans control Congress. So, I'm asking you to add to your demands for ICE funding the following restrictions on ICE: 1) No children in detention! Not ever. And no putting children in harm's way by leaving them alone without a guardian. 2) No expansion of detention facilities! We do not need facilities to house another 80,000 people. Who exactly is going to fill those? 3) No deportation to third-party countries that are not agreed upon by the detainee. We need to prohibit the gross injustice of sending people to CECOT without a trial. 4) A clear chain of custody. It is unacceptable that ICE disappears people by moving them across state lines, and they are unlocatable by family, lawyer, and friends. 5) No multi-year funding for DHS/ICE. It is outrageous that they are funded through 2029 in that big bullshit bill. If DHS is funded through 2029, there is no recourse for us when ICE simply ignores the law. ACCOUNTABILITY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT WHEN TRUMP ALLIES ARE THREATENING TO USE ICE AT POLLING PLACES IN BLUE CITIES. What are you doing to ensure accountability for all of us and for individuals brutalized by ICE agents or maligned by DOJ and DHS? It is not acceptable that the President can sue American taxpayers for $10B in reputational damage, but American citizens cannot sue when our government calls them domestic terrorists and posts AI-altered images calling them "memes." Americans are in unison, a rarity these days - we want ICE stopped. Please, please fight with us.
