Stop ICE: Vote Yes on The Ban Warehouse Detention Act

To: Rep. Dingell, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Ann Arbor, MI

April 24

I need you to vote yes on the Ban Warehouse Detention Act. ICE's use of warehouse facilities represents an escalation of cruelty that has been inflicted on immigrant communities for years. These facilities are human rights violations by design. People are crammed into spaces built for cargo, denied adequate medical care, cut off from legal counsel, and subjected to conditions that amount to torture. Detainees report freezing temperatures, inedible food, and guards who treat them as less than human. This is the logical endpoint of a system that has consistently chosen punishment over due process. Warehouse detention is part of ICE's broader pattern of abuse. Family separation, deaths in custody, sexual assault allegations, and now industrial-scale warehousing of human beings. Each step has been more dehumanizing than the last. ICE operates with impunity, and these warehouses give the agency even more power to hide its abuses from oversight and accountability. The Ban Warehouse Detention Act would stop this trajectory. It would shut down these facilities and establish minimum standards that treat detained people as human beings with rights. This is about reining in an agency that has proven it cannot be trusted with unchecked authority over vulnerable people. Vote yes.
