Peaceful Protest is Not Insurrection -- Act Now

To: Rep. Jayapal, Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell

From: A verified voter in Seattle, WA

January 21

I strongly support immediate congressional action to prevent misuse of the Insurrection Act. Peaceful protest is not insurrection. That line must be clear in law and enforced in practice. The administration’s escalating rhetoric and deployment of armed federal agents appears designed to provoke unrest—not prevent it—and many of us see this as a dangerous distraction from ongoing oversight responsibilities, including the release of the Epstein files. Waiting until after the Act is invoked is waiting too long. Congress must act now. I urge you to: -- Narrow the statutory definition of “insurrection” -- Require time limits and automatic congressional approval for deployments -- Mandate transparency before invocation -- Use funding authority to prevent domestic military misuse Thank you for your leadership and for defending constitutional boundaries and democratic norms.
