I am writing as your constituent to express my strong opposition to gerrymandering in Texas and to voice my support for the Democratic legislators who left the state to prevent the special session called by Governor Abbott.
Gerrymandering is a direct attack on fair representation. Drawing district boundaries to favor one political party undermines our democracy, dilutes the voices of voters—particularly those from minority and marginalized communities—and erodes public trust in our government. Elections should be decided by voters choosing their representatives, not representatives choosing their voters.
The legislators who left the state took an extraordinary step to protect voting rights and ensure that the people of Texas have fair elections. Their actions were not about avoiding work—they were about standing up to a process that threatens the integrity of our democracy. Sometimes, preventing a harmful bill from advancing is the most responsible choice a public servant can make.
I urge you to reject any redistricting or legislative measures that manipulate district boundaries for partisan gain. Instead, I encourage you to support a transparent, nonpartisan redistricting process—one that uses public input, objective criteria, and independent oversight to ensure every Texan’s vote counts equally.
Our state’s strength lies in the diversity of its people and in the fairness of its democratic institutions. Any attempt to distort representation for political advantage damages both. Texas voters deserve competitive districts that reflect real communities, not lines drawn to protect incumbents or parties.
Please let your constituents know where you stand on this issue and what actions you will take to ensure our elections are free, fair, and truly representative of the will of the people.
