I am writing as your constituent to demand that you oppose any funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the current federal budget negotiations and work toward the full defunding of the agency. Ongoing disputes in Congress over Department of Homeland Security funding have once again highlighted ICE’s pattern of violence, lack of accountability, and the harm it causes to immigrant communities. These budget negotiations present a critical opportunity to reevaluate whether ICE should continue to exist in its current form—or be funded at all. While some lawmakers have called for reforms, I want to be clear: reform is not enough. ICE’s core mission of aggressive immigration enforcement and deportation is inherently harmful. The agency has a long history of family separation, racial profiling, abuse of power, and operating with minimal oversight. Continued funding only enables further harm to vulnerable communities. As your constituent, I urge you to take a firm stand by doing the following: Oppose all appropriations that allocate funding to ICE, whether directly or through the Department of Homeland Security. Support efforts to fully defund or abolish ICE and redirect those funds toward humane, community-based immigration solutions. Advocate for policies that prioritize due process, safety, and human dignity over punishment and enforcement. Funding ICE is a political choice—not an inevitability. Many members of Congress are already using the appropriations process to push back against continued investment in immigration enforcement agencies that have repeatedly demonstrated they cannot operate ethically or safely. I expect you to stand with your constituents and with immigrant communities by rejecting ICE funding. I look forward to your response and to hearing how you plan to act on this issue.
