Oppose Granting Entry to Flávio Bolsonaro

To: Sen. Blackburn, Rep. Kustoff, Sen. Hagerty

From: A constituent in Memphis, TN

October 28

Oppose the Trump administration's decision to issue visas and grant entry to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family after he defied a Brazilian Supreme Court order to surrender his passports and fled the country following his election loss. Bolsonaro is under investigation by Brazil's highest court for alleged corruption, money laundering, and currency evasion, including ties to a $7 billion Ponzi-like scheme involving the now-collapsed Banco Master. He was ordered to hand over his passports within 24 hours and was told by Brazilian police he was banned from leaving. He left anyway. The Trump administration knew about that 24-hour deadline and moved to welcome him regardless. That is not asylum. That is political favoritism for a foreign fugitive. This mirrors exactly what happened with Jair Bolsonaro, who fled to Florida after his 2022 loss while his supporters stormed Brazil's congress, supreme court, and presidential palace. Jair was later sentenced to 27 years in prison. Welcoming Flávio continues a pattern of shielding allies from legal accountability in their own countries. This undermines the rule of law and damages the credibility of U.S. foreign policy. Speak out against this decision and push for a full review of the visas issued to Bolsonaro and his family.
