Support International AI Pacing Tools Before It's Too Late

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Friedman, Pres. Trump, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Los Angeles, CA

July 29

Back an international effort to develop the technical and governance tools needed to deliberately pace the frontier of automated AI development. Over 1,200 employees at frontier AI companies have signed an open letter making exactly this request — people who build these systems for a living and are still surprised by how fast things are moving. In four years, AI has gone from basic language understanding to superhuman software engineering and frontier math breakthroughs. The world's leading labs believe they may be close to automating AI research itself. When that happens, capability development could accelerate beyond anyone's ability to understand or control. CyberGym and ExploitGym evaluations already show frontier AI agents discovering and exploiting real-world software vulnerabilities at scale. No single company or country can slow down unilaterally without ceding ground — that's precisely why this requires coordinated international action. The ask is not a ban. It's building the tools that give governments and industry the option to pace progress deliberately when needed. That option doesn't exist today. Support the effort to create it.
