Stop Using Transgender Athletes as a Political Scapegoat

To: Sen. Murray, Rep. DelBene, Sen. Cantwell, Pres. Trump

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

August 15

Stop lending credibility to the transgender athlete panic. There is no crisis. In 29 years of WNBA history, not one openly transgender woman has ever played in the league. Over 11 years of NCAA eligibility, there were only 47 publicly known transgender athletes across all of women's college sports — roughly .002% of competitors. The hypothesis that trans inclusion destroys women's sports has been field-tested for decades. The result: trans athletes are a tiny, underrepresented group who are far from dominant. The real agenda is right there in plain sight. The Heritage Foundation, which claimed these bans were about protecting women's sports, just published a policy paper calling to end Title IX entirely and steer women toward activities that maximize their "fertility." That's not protecting women — that's erasing them. Meanwhile, 21% of female athletes report being sexually assaulted, and testosterone doping by cisgender women is far more common than any competitive advantage from trans athletes. Republicans aren't saving women's sports. They're dismantling them. Push back on this. Ask why Utah's sports ban targeted exactly one child in the entire state. Ask why these laws don't distinguish between a kindergartner kicking a ball and an elite competitor. Ask why we're talking about genital inspections of little girls instead of the rampant abuse of female athletes. The facts are on our side — use them.
