PETITION TO THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS
To the Members of the United States Congress:
We, the undersigned citizens, are outraged by the shooting death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse who was shot and killed by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026 during an enforcement operation. Pretti was a compassionate caregiver, a U.S. citizen with no serious criminal history beyond traffic tickets, and deeply involved in his community.
This incident, occurring amid a surge of federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota, has sparked widespread protests and raised urgent concerns about the use of lethal force by federal agents and the broader policies driving these actions.
We demand that Congress:
Open a full, independent investigation into the circumstances of this killing, including whether lethal force was justified.
Hold hearings on federal immigration enforcement policies and oversight, especially concerning agencies operating without sufficient accountability.
Ensure transparency and civilian review of all use-of-force incidents involving federal officers.
Reform immigration enforcement practices to protect civil rights and prevent further loss of innocent life.
Our nation must uphold justice, protect civil liberties, and ensure that federal power is exercised responsibly — not used to terrorize or kill its own residents. Congress must act now.
