Require ICE to unmask and display clear identification

To: Sen. Markey, Rep. McGovern, Sen. Warren

From: A constituent in Sunderland, MA

July 17

The lack of clear identification for ICE agents creates an environment ripe for misconduct, abuse, and violation of civil liberties. It is imperative that Congress acts decisively to require ICE officers to prominently display badges and nameplates when interacting with the public. This basic transparency measure would help hold rogue agents accountable and protect the rights of immigrants and citizens alike. Without proper identification, there is no way for people to file legitimate complaints or seek recourse when ICE oversteps its bounds. Enforcing commonsense identification rules is a critical first step towards much-needed ICE oversight and reform. I urge you to champion legislation mandating that all ICE personnel clearly identify themselves at all times.
