I am writing to demand that you protect—and strengthen—our nation’s clean air standards. High fuel-efficiency requirements, strict exhaust limits, and robust clean-air regulations are not optional luxuries. They are essential protections for public health, economic stability, and environmental responsibility.
Americans across every state deserve to breathe air that is safe. Rolling back MPG requirements or weakening emissions standards serves no one except the corporations that profit from pollution. Meanwhile, the public pays the price in higher healthcare costs, more respiratory illness, and a warming climate that threatens our communities.
We know what works: higher MPG means less fuel burned, less pollution, and lower costs for families. Strong emissions standards mean cleaner skies, fewer smog alerts, and healthier children. These are proven, popular policies supported by decades of science and the lived experience of millions of Americans.
Do not move backward. Do not let industry lobbyists dictate the quality of the air we breathe. Stand up for clean air, for public health, for a livable climate, and for the future we are leaving to the next generation. Strengthen these standards. Defend them. Expand them.
The American people are watching—and we expect action.
