Urgent Concerns with Tariffs, Civil Liberties, and Social Program Cuts
To: Sen. Banks, Sen. Young, Rep. Mrvan
From: A verified voter in Valparaiso, IN
April 13
I am writing as your concerned constituent to express my deep apprehension over several recent federal actions that I believe are detrimental to our community and the nation at large.
Economic Policies and Tariffs
The recent implementation of aggressive tariff strategies by the administration has led to significant economic instability. A CBS News/YouGov poll indicates that 54% of Americans now attribute the declining economic conditions to these policies . While the intention may be to bolster domestic industries, the immediate effect has been increased prices for everyday goods, adversely affecting hardworking Hoosiers.
Erosion of Civil Liberties
Alarming reports have surfaced regarding the administration’s approach to immigration enforcement. There are credible accounts of individuals being detained without due process and deported despite judicial orders to the contrary . Such actions not only undermine the rule of law but also set a dangerous precedent that threatens the civil liberties of all Americans.
Social Program Cuts
The administration’s proposed cuts to essential social programs, including Social Security and Medicare, have sparked widespread concern. Senator Bernie Sanders’ recent rally in Los Angeles, which drew over 36,000 attendees, underscores the public’s opposition to these measures . These programs are lifelines for many in our community, and any reductions could have devastating effects on our most vulnerable populations.
Call to Action
As our representative, I urge you to:
1. Advocate for Economic Stability: Push for a reevaluation of tariff policies that are contributing to economic hardship for Indiana residents.
2. Protect Civil Liberties: Ensure that immigration enforcement respects due process and judicial authority, safeguarding the rights of all individuals.
3. Defend Social Programs: Oppose any legislative efforts aimed at cutting essential social services that support the well-being of our constituents.
I trust that you will consider these concerns seriously and take appropriate action to represent the best interests of our district.
