As 2024 draws to a close, I’m bringing this issue to your attention once again:
Linda McMahon, a long-time friend of Donald Trump and wife of Vince McMahon, is not someone who should represent or manage any part of the United States of America. Her nomination is a slap in the face to everyone who cares about children in our country.
To keep this short, McMahon has no background in 'public schools'. She has no significant background in public schools nor any understanding of what it takes to help every student thrive. She served one year on the Connecticut Board of Education after lying about having a degree in education. McMahon spent her career as CEO of WWE, an entertainment company that has been accused of shady business practices and the abusive treatment of employees.
Furthermore, she has a different kind of experience with school aged children. During her time with WWE, Vince and Linda McMahon were aware of the sexual abuse of the underage “ring boys” and did nothing about it. She has an ongoing lawsuit regarding her “[failure] to act on allegations of sex abuse of children who helped ringside at wrestling events in the 1980s,” (CNN, https://tinyurl.com/tmxausb2).
How can our country let someone like this be in charge of education?
Reject her nomination.
