Demand to End U.S. Complicity in Israel's Invasion of Lebanon and Forced Displacement of Civilians I am writing with profound alarm regarding Israel's expanding invasion of southern Lebanon, which has displaced more than one million people—approximately one-fifth of Lebanon's population—and resulted in over 1,200 deaths. As reported by NPR, Israeli officials have openly stated their intent to create a "security zone" inside Lebanese territory, demolish homes, and prevent residents from returning until unspecified security conditions are met. This is not a defensive action. It is a policy of forced displacement that Human Rights Watch has called a possible war crime. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has explicitly referenced adopting the "Gaza model" in Lebanon—a reference to the mass destruction and displacement already inflicted on Palestinians. Now, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expanding this invasion, with residents fleeing in waves as evacuation orders spread from dozens to over a hundred villages and towns. The testimonies in this report are devastating. Families huddle in repurposed school shelters. A 56-year-old man who has lived through nearly every war with Israel wonders if he will ever return to the land where he was raised. A municipal official near the border fears his village will no longer be Lebanese. This is happening with the full backing of the United States government. Our military aid, diplomatic cover, and weapons supplies are enabling this expanding war. The U.S. cannot claim to support international law while funding actions that constitute forced displacement, collective punishment, and potential war crimes. I demand that you take immediate action to: 1. Publicly condemn Israel's invasion of Lebanon and its policy of forced displacement. 2. Support an immediate ceasefire and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory. 3. Suspend all military aid and arms transfers to Israel until it ceases its violations of international law and stops its expanding military campaigns across the region. 4. Use all diplomatic leverage to ensure displaced Lebanese civilians can return safely to their homes, in accordance with international law. The United States must stop being an enabler of this escalating conflict. I urge you to act before more lives are destroyed and another region is plunged into permanent occupation and displacement.
