Oppose the “One Big Beautiful Bill” – A Reverse Robin Hood Scheme
To: Sen. Collins, Sen. King
From: A constituent in South Portland, ME
June 7
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” currently under Senate consideration. This legislation is a glaring example of a reverse Robin Hood policy—taking from the poor and vulnerable to further enrich the wealthy.
The bill’s provisions are deeply troubling:
• Massive Tax Cuts for the Wealthy: Extending and expanding the 2017 tax cuts, the bill offers nearly $4 trillion in tax reductions that predominantly benefit the top 1% of earners.
• Severe Cuts to Social Programs: The legislation proposes over $1 trillion in cuts to essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP, potentially leaving 10.9 million Americans without health insurance.
• Increased National Debt: Despite claims of fiscal responsibility, the Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will add $2.4 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade.
This approach is not only economically unsound but morally reprehensible. It prioritizes the interests of the wealthy elite over the needs of everyday Americans, undermining the very fabric of our society.
Furthermore, the bill’s passage could have long-term detrimental effects on our nation’s financial health, burdening future generations with unsustainable debt.
I urge you to stand against this legislation and advocate for policies that promote equity, support the vulnerable, and ensure a sustainable economic future for all Americans.
