Trump cannot be allowed to buy our votes, least of all with OUR money. I am writing to you today to express my profound outrage regarding President Trump’s recent declaration at the Republican midterm convention—promising a $5,000 "dividend" to every American adult, but only on the condition that voters maintain GOP control of Congress.
This is not governance; it is a blatant, transactional attempt to buy an election that rivals the most corrupt practices of Tammany Hall. Using public policy and a theoretical multi-trillion-dollar payout as a political ransom note to coerce voters is a grotesque subversion of democratic norms. It treats the U.S. Treasury like a personal slush fund to bail out vulnerable political candidates.
A scheme this shameless demonstrates that the President is morally, ethically, and legally unfit to hold the highest office in the land. Members of Congress who take an oath to uphold the Constitution have a duty to draw a line against this kind of authoritarian degradation of our republic.
I urge you to publicly condemn this corrupt proposal, distance yourself from it entirely, and support impeachment and removal proceedings against a president who treats our democracy as something to be bought and sold.
