Demand Accountability for AG Pam Bondi’s Abandonment of The People I am a voting constituent writing to express profound disgust over the conduct of Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice. ProPublica's report, "Trump’s Justice Department Dropped 23,000 Criminal Investigations in Shift to Immigration," reveals a catastrophic dereliction of duty that prioritizes political optics over the safety and security of the American people. According to the investigation, under Pam Bondi’s leadership, the DOJ has shuttered over 23,000 pending criminal cases in just six months—a staggering departure from any previous administration. In February 2025 alone, Bondi’s office declined nearly 11,000 cases, the highest monthly total in over two decades. This was not a routine cleaning of files; it was a systematic dismantling of the rule of law executed via a 10-day mandate that forced prosecutors to abandon years of investigative work. The victims of this shift are the people you were elected to represent. Fawning over the President and his political agenda, Attorney General Bondi has: Abandoned Victims of Abuse and Fraud: Investigations into a Virginia nursing home with a record of patient abuse, labor union embezzlement, and cryptocurrency scams were among those summarily closed. Weakened National Security: The DOJ dropped more than 1,000 terrorism and national security cases, nearly double the historical average for a new administration. Halted the Fight Against the Drug Crisis: While the administration speaks of a scourge of drugs, Bondi’s DOJ declined nearly 5,000 federal drug law violations, including trafficking and money laundering. Career prosecutors have noted they were ordered to abandon cases against major fentanyl suppliers to focus on politically motivated targets for the sake of appearances. Enabled Corporate and White-Collar Crime: Over 900 cases of federal program and procurement fraud were declined, including cases involving major fraud against the U.S. government. As reported by former DOJ employees, this sledgehammer approach to the Justice Department has replaced impartial justice with a political weapon. When the nation’s top law enforcement officer prioritizes the President’s campaign rhetoric over the prosecution of terrorists, fraudsters, and abusers, she is no longer representing the interests of the public. I urge you to use your oversight authority to hold Attorney General Bondi accountable with immediate public hearings to investigate: The specific criteria used in the 10-day review that led to the declination of 23,000 cases. The impact of these closures on active threats to national security and public health. The extent to which political directives have overridden the professional judgment of career federal prosecutors. The Department of Justice belongs to The People, not to a single individual or political party. Address this unprecedented abuse of our justice system.
