Trump Erased a Memorial to Gun Violence Victims: Save our DOJ

To: Rep. Casar, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

May 5

Removing a gun violence memorial built by the ATF isn’t just petty; it’s an insult to every family shattered by a bullet. President Trump didn’t just erase a tribute. He erased the truth. That memorial stood for victims, not politics. This is the kind of disrespect that defines authoritarian regimes, not a democratic government (NPR, May 2025). Now, he’s gutting the ATF, DEA, and FBI budgets, weakening the very agencies charged with fighting crime and enforcing gun laws. Trump’s proposal would slash ATF funding to its lowest level in nearly a decade and force a merger with DEA, a move law enforcement experts warn will destroy critical expertise and public safety capacity. To make matters worse, he’s installed Kash Patel, a known political enforcer with no firearms enforcement experience, as acting head of ATF. Patel has a record of using government power for political revenge. This is not law enforcement; it’s regime behavior. You must act. Investigate this. Speak out. Stop the weaponization of our justice system before it becomes irreversible. The country is watching.
