I am writing to strongly object to President Trump’s actions in Venezuela today.
While Nicolás Maduro and his wife are widely known to be corrupt and abusive leaders, the United States cannot simply enter a sovereign nation, seize its leaders, and transport them to the U.S. for prosecution. Acting this way, outside international law, due process, and established diplomatic or judicial channels, sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the rule of law we claim to uphold.
If the U.S. believes crimes have been committed, there are lawful mechanisms to pursue accountability. Acting unilaterally and forcefully risks destabilizing the region, damaging U.S. credibility, and inviting retaliation or global condemnation.
I urge Congress to assert its constitutional role, demand accountability, and make clear that U.S. power must be exercised within the bounds of law and not impulse. Trump must be impeached for this action!
