I am writing to express my deep concern about the recent policies and actions targeting transgender individuals in our country. As your constituent, I urge you to stand against these discriminatory measures and support the rights of all Americans, including our transgender community members.
Recent polling data from Data for Progress reveals that the majority of Americans oppose anti-transgender policies. For instance, 52% of respondents disagree with removing LGBTQ+ health information from federal websites, while only 26% support such censorship. This clearly shows that attempts to erase transgender people from our national narrative are out of step with public opinion.
Furthermore, 55% of Americans believe that decisions about transgender youth medical care should be made by families and physicians, not the government. This sentiment aligns with the principle of personal freedom that our nation holds dear. It's also worth noting that 61% of respondents oppose prosecuting teachers who support transgender youth, demonstrating a strong public stance against intimidation tactics.
The poll also indicates that only 21% of Americans support the transgender military ban. This low level of support suggests that such policies not only discriminate against willing and capable service members but also go against the wishes of the American people.
I ask you to consider these statistics carefully and take action to protect the rights of transgender individuals. This includes opposing efforts to censor LGBTQ+ health information, supporting families' rights to make medical decisions for their children, and working to reverse discriminatory policies like the military ban.
By standing up for transgender rights, you'll not only be representing the views of the majority of Americans but also ensuring that our country lives up to its ideals of equality and justice for all. The time to act is now. Our transgender community members deserve nothing less than full recognition and protection under the law.
