President Trump’s time in office has been nothing short of a disaster for immigrants and their loved ones.
Masked federal agents are arresting people outside schools and their homes, sparking protests that have been met by federal troops. President Trump has disappeared people to a mega-prison in El Salvador notorious for torture – without any due process. ICE agents have abducted people from courthouses as they attended their own immigration hearings. And the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now illegally detaining immigrant families with young children in facilities without clean drinking water and virtually no medical care or access to lawyers.
The Trump administration is weaponizing the resources of the government against immigrants to mass arrest, detain, and deport people who contribute to our communities and our economy. These policies are inhumane – but right now, Congress is poised to give over $170 billion more in taxpayer dollars to immigration enforcement and detention, a more than five fold increase to their current funding, supercharging President Trump’s mass deportation machine.
We cannot let this bill pass. Congress can’t give President Trump more resources to ramp up his violent, destabilizing, and frequently illegal mass deportation plans.
