Dear [Representative / Senator / Archivist],I am writing to demand that the Equal Rights Amendment be printed and certified as the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution without further delay. The ERA states: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” It has now been ratified by 38 states—the number required by Article V. The Archivist of the United States has a ministerial duty to publish a duly ratified amendment. Continued refusal to print and certify the ERA leaves a completed constitutional process unfinished and denies equal legal protection on the basis of sex. Please take every available step to ensure the ERA is published immediately, including directing or supporting the Archivist in carrying out this duty and opposing any further procedural obstacles. Constituents expect their representatives to uphold the amendment process and secure equal rights under the law.I urge you to act now and to confirm what specific steps you will take.
