Support H.Res. 38 – Defend Congress’s War Powers and Stop Unauthorized Strikes

To: Sen. Blackburn, Sen. Hagerty, Rep. Van Epps

From: A constituent in Clarksville, TN

March 1

As a retired Army veteran and your constituent, I am urging you to support H.Res. 38, the bipartisan War Powers Resolution, to prevent the Trump administration from launching military strikes on Iran without explicit Congressional authorization. I served this country for over two decades. I understand the cost of war — not just in dollars, but in lives, families, and long-term consequences. The Constitution is clear: Congress holds the authority to declare war. That responsibility cannot be handed over to any president, Republican or Democrat, without debate and a vote. You cannot hide behind party loyalty on this. Your oath was to the Constitution, not to a president. The American people are struggling with the cost of groceries, gas, housing, and healthcare. We do not want another endless, expensive war in the Middle East. We cannot afford it financially, strategically, or morally. Military escalation with Iran would risk American lives and destabilize the region even further. If there is to be military action, it must go through Congress. That is your job. Support H.Res. 38. Defend Congress’s war powers. Protect our service members from being sent into another conflict without clear authorization and a defined objective. Do your constitutional duty.
