Stop Using Fraud Allegations to Dismantle Gender-Affirming Care

The DOJ's settlement with Cleveland Clinic is not about protecting patients — it's about using fraud allegations as a weapon to strip trans youth of medical care and intimidate doctors and families into silence. The result is a "detransition" clinic that, as Brad Pritchett of Equality Texas put it, is a resource "no one is asking for," funded by millions of dollars coerced from a hospital that denied every allegation and faced no determination of liability. The premise behind this settlement is false. Research consistently shows that the overwhelming majority of trans people do not detransition, and those who do cite anti-trans discrimination and loss of access to care as the primary reasons — not a change in identity. This mirrors the discredited "ex-gay" movement, repackaged as medicine. Worse, the DOJ's fraud framing gives the government a pretext to access protected medical records, as Jesse Thorn noted — a fishing expedition that puts real families at risk. I want you to publicly oppose the DOJ's use of fraud claims to target gender-affirming care providers, and to support legislative protections for minors' medical records. This administration is dismantling healthcare for vulnerable kids through legal intimidation, and the Cleveland Clinic settlement — which now reaches into Nevada, Florida, Canada, the UAE, and the UK — shows how far that reach extends. Stand against it.
