I am writing to express my strong opposition to several recent legislative initiatives associated with the MAGA agenda, which I believe endanger the stability, safety, and values of our country and our community here in Indiana. First, Project 2025 outlines sweeping changes to federal government operations, including the abolition of the Department of Education and extreme limitations on reproductive rights. These proposals threaten public education and infringe on personal freedoms that should remain protected under the Constitution. I’m also concerned about the proposed extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Without offsets, this could add over $4 trillion to the national debt—jeopardizing Social Security, Medicare, and other essential services. While tax relief is important, it should not come at the cost of long-term economic stability. Further, I strongly oppose proposed cuts to public safety funding, including the call to defund the COPS program. Local law enforcement needs consistent support, not partisan budget slashing. In addition, recent developments regarding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are deeply troubling. The decision to give Elon Musk’s team access to government payment systems raises serious concerns about national security, privacy, and the ethical boundaries of public-private collaboration. Oversight is urgently needed to protect sensitive data and democratic integrity. Lastly, the administration’s proposed global tariffs risk major economic disruption. These measures could increase costs for American families and businesses, damage relationships with allies, and spark a trade war. I urge you to support legislation—like the STABLE Trade Policy Act—that would require congressional approval before new tariffs are imposed. Trade policy should be deliberate, transparent, and beneficial to the American people—not used as a political weapon. I urge you to stand against these extreme measures and advocate for policies that protect rights, safeguard economic health, and preserve the democratic principles that define our nation.
