I am appalled that the IRS will be handing over information on taxpaying migrants to ICE! Rather than going after real, adjudicated, dangerous criminals the Trump administration is just lazy and cruel. They are picking up the people appearing for their appointments with ICE, the students, the people working at jobs, the people visible in the community, and now the people who dutifully pay their taxes. This is despicable! Why is ICE going after the law abiding immigrants? Many have papers granting them permission to be here and are going through the process to gain legal status. These are not criminals. I think everyone agrees that violent criminals should be deported but they should be subject to due process. Even criminals should not be sent to that horrendous prison in El Salvador. We have a responsibility of care for those we detain. We should live up to our American standards of justice, fairness and behaving in a humane fashion. Kidnapping people off the streets and out of their homes and dorm rooms is thuggish and in itself criminal behavior. Don’t hand IRS info to ICE. Treat everyone fairly with due process. In America even criminals should receive a hearing.
