Balanced approach needed for wildfire prevention and environmental protection

To: Rep. Garbarino, Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer

From: A constituent in Massapequa, NY

April 11

I oppose the Fix Our Forests Act due to concerns over its potential environmental impacts and limitations on public input. While addressing wildfire risks is important, the broad categorical exclusions from environmental review could lead to unsustainable logging and endanger sensitive habitats and species. Streamlining processes should not come at the cost of inadequate environmental safeguards and restricting public participation. A more balanced approach that maintains robust environmental review and public engagement processes is needed to reduce wildfire risks while protecting ecological values. More funding for proactive forest management, rather than expanded emergency authorities, may be a better path forward.
