Block the DHS contract to equip ICE agents with electric shock gloves. The agency is planning to spend up to $20 million on the CTG 5 G.L.O.V.E. device, which delivers up to 380 volts directly to a person's skin. This is not a de-escalation tool — it's a pain compliance weapon being handed to an agency that has spent the past year demonstrating it cannot be trusted with the force it already has. ICE is already under scrutiny for aggressive and dangerous tactics while pushing toward 2,000 arrests a day. The ACLU's Jenn Rolnick Borchetta put it plainly: "ICE spent the last year showing this country they are too quick to use force. Now they will be able to deploy electric shocks with the slight push of a button that maybe nobody else can see them do." In 2022, corrections officers in South Carolina were criminally charged for using this exact same device to beat and shock an inmate. That's the track record here. A no-bid contract solicitation could be published as early as this week. Use your authority to intervene now — demand a halt to this procurement, hold hearings, and cut off funding for it. Giving ICE invisible, wearable shock weapons is a recipe for abuse, not safety.
