Stop unconstitutional deportations to foreign prisons without due process.

To: Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Stevens, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Farmington, MI

April 15

It is critical that Congress takes immediate action to stop the Trump administration's unconstitutional plan to traffic US civilians, including those with no criminal record, to a gulag in El Salvador. The idea of deporting American citizens to a foreign prison camp, violating their due process rights, is a dangerous authoritarian overreach that cannot be tolerated. This terrifying practice has already ensnared innocent people like Kilmar Abrego Garcia, despite the Supreme Court's order for his return. If the administration succeeds in defying the courts and permanently imprisoning Garcia, it will embolden them to do the same to others Trump deems "homegrown criminals" based on his personal biases. This is a slippery slope towards totalitarianism where anyone can be disappeared without evidence or trial simply for being an "undesirable." We cannot allow such a blatant violation of constitutional rights and human rights to stand. Urgent action is needed to rein in this abuse of power and bring Abrego Garcia home immediately before more innocent lives are destroyed. The rule of law and democracy itself are at stake.
