Reinstate AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers for disaster relief efforts

To: Sen. Husted, Rep. Balderson, Pres. Trump, Sen. Moreno

From: A constituent in Reynoldsburg, OH

April 16

The recent decision to abruptly pull AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) volunteers away from critical disaster relief and community service projects is concerning. These young people were actively engaged in rebuilding homes destroyed by storms, preparing summer camps for children, distributing hurricane relief supplies, and supporting wildfire resilience efforts. Their sudden departure leaves vulnerable communities without vital assistance during a pivotal time before hurricane season. AmeriCorps NCCC is a crucial program that provides job training and educational opportunities for thousands of Americans aged 18-26 each year while serving communities in need. Cutting this program not only disrupts ongoing relief work but also eliminates an important pathway for young people pursuing careers in emergency management and disaster response. The government should prioritize supporting programs like AmeriCorps NCCC that directly benefit citizens and communities rather than dismantling them. Reinstating these volunteers to continue their critical work would demonstrate a commitment to public service and preparedness. Investing in efforts that enhance community resilience and provide skills training for the next generation is an essential responsibility of the government.
