Demand DOJ Drop Conspiracy Charges Against Legal Observers

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. Huizenga, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI

June 17

The DOJ's conspiracy charges against 15 people — announced by U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen and justified in part by a single Facebook post reading "We need to become ungovernable" — are a direct attack on constitutional oversight. A pre-dawn DHS/ICE raid on the home of a legal observer in South Minneapolis is not counterterrorism. It's intimidation. You need to publicly condemn this abuse and demand accountability from the DOJ. Legal observers are not terrorists. NSPM-7 is being used to redefine documentation of federal agents as "impediment" or "co-conspiracy" — targeting civilians exercising First Amendment rights that courts have repeatedly upheld. Federal agents have already shot and killed two Twin Cities residents, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, during Operation Metro Surge. The public deserves independent documentation of operations like these, not a federal crackdown designed to eliminate it. Demand the DOJ drop the conspiracy charges, halt the use of NSPM-7 to target observers and documentarians, and answer for the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
