The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy has proposed cutting $500 billion in federal spending, which could potentially impact health care services for military veterans. I strongly urge DOGE not to target funding for veteran health benefits as part of these cuts. Our nation's veterans served honorably, and denying them access to quality care would breach our commitment after their immense sacrifices. Finding ways to reduce wasteful spending is prudent, but vital services for veterans must not be compromised. These men and women already paid a tremendous price through their service. Providing proper medical care is the minimum debt we owe them for defending our freedom and security. I implore DOGE to remove veterans' health care from its proposed cuts. Our veterans deserve better than having critical benefits stripped away after all they have endured. Maintaining robust VA health system funding must be a non-negotiable priority when assessing federal expenditures. Please uphold our sacred obligation to support those who bore battle on our nation's behalf.
