Save ACA Subsidies
To: Sen. Peters
From: A constituent in Kalamazoo, MI
November 10, 2025
I’m writing to urge you to stand firm in protecting the Affordable Care Act subsidies during the ongoing government funding negotiations. These subsidies are not a bargaining chip—they are a lifeline for millions of Americans, including hardworking families here in Michigan who rely on affordable, comprehensive health coverage.
The ACA subsidies make health care accessible for people who would otherwise go without insurance or face impossible choices between paying for coverage, rent, or groceries. Weakening or eliminating these subsidies would instantly raise premiums, push families off their plans, and destabilize the entire health insurance marketplace. That’s not fiscal responsibility—it’s cruelty disguised as compromise.
A government shutdown is bad enough; using people’s health care as leverage makes it worse. This is not the time to backtrack on one of the most successful health programs in recent history. The ACA has expanded coverage, reduced medical bankruptcies, and improved health outcomes across the country. Undermining subsidies now would undo years of progress and deepen inequities in access to care.
I know you’ve consistently supported working families and defended the right to affordable health care. I’m asking you to hold that line now. Do not let extremist demands or political brinkmanship erode what Michiganders have fought so hard to secure. Compromise should never come at the expense of our neighbors’ health or our shared commitment to a government that serves the people.
Please use your voice and your vote to ensure that the ACA remains fully funded and that subsidies stay intact. Standing up for health care access isn’t just good policy—it’s a moral imperative. Michiganders are counting on you to protect us from reckless cuts that would hurt our families and communities.
Thank you for your leadership and for defending affordable health care for all.
