The Equal Rights Amendment, first proposed in 1923, states that "equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." Despite being approved by Congress in 1972, the amendment fell short of ratification by the required 38 states before the deadline. President Biden vowed to prioritize adding the ERA to the Constitution, recognizing the ongoing fight for equal rights regardless of gender. However, over a year into his term, no substantial action has been taken. It is imperative that definitive steps are made to enshrine gender equality as a constitutional guarantee, fulfilling a longstanding promise and reaffirming our nation's commitment to securing equal rights and protections for all citizens. The time for delaying this fundamental legislation has long passed - we urge swift and decisive action to finally ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.
