Senate Democratic Leadership Must Change

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Detroit, MI

April 16

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you and your colleagues to advocate for new Senate Democratic leadership. Senator Chuck Schumer has served in the Senate for decades, and while his tenure has included meaningful accomplishments, I believe the Democratic Party is at a critical inflection point — one that demands bold, forward-looking leadership that Senator Schumer has repeatedly failed to provide. The evidence is clear: time and again, Senate Democrats have entered high-stakes negotiations only to emerge with outcomes that fall short of what the moment required. Whether on budget negotiations, judicial confirmations, or procedural fights, the results under Senator Schumer’s leadership have left many Democrats — and millions of Americans — frustrated and demoralized. The party needs a leader who reflects its evolving coalition: someone with the energy, vision, and negotiating acumen to fight effectively for working families, civil rights, healthcare, and democracy itself. Senator Schumer, with respect, is not that person. I urge you to use your voice and your vote within the Senate Democratic caucus to support a transition to new leadership — leadership that can meet this moment. Thank you for your service and for considering the views of your constituents.
