Please vote "Yes" and coauthor SB 42, the California Fair Elections Act!

To: Gov. Newsom, Sen. Choi, Asm. Petrie-Norris

From: A constituent in Irvine, CA

July 27

Californians are rightly concerned they lack a full voice in elections because their small contributions can't compete with big secret money from wealthy interests. A recent Gallup poll found that only 20% of voters were satisfied with the nation’s campaign finance laws. That’s why we need SB 42, and I’m grateful that you voted for AB 270 (Lee–Cervantes) last session. Like AB 270, SB 42 would put the California Fair Elections Act on the ballot to repeal the ban on public financing of campaigns—ensuring that all local governments and the state have the same option that charter cities already do: to pass public funding systems that amplify the voices of everyday voters and provide candidates an alternative to relying on large donors. As your constituent and a Clean Money supporter, it would mean a great deal to me if you would follow up your vote for AB 270 by voting Yes on SB 42—and especially by coauthoring it to show your leadership for fairer, more representative elections.
