I am writing as your constituent to urge you to strongly support continued and robust federal funding for National Public Radio (NPR), the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). These institutions are vital to the health of our democracy and to the education, enrichment, and well-being of the American people.
For decades, public broadcasting has served as one of the most trusted sources of unbiased news, quality educational content, and cultural programming that reflects the diversity of our nation. From “PBS NewsHour” and “NPR’s All Things Considered” to children’s programming like “Sesame Street” and “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” these services provide value to Americans of all backgrounds—urban and rural, young and old, conservative and liberal.
I am deeply concerned about ongoing efforts to undermine or eliminate federal support for these public institutions, including those advanced by President Donald Trump and his administration. Slashing or eliminating CPB funding would severely weaken these services and disproportionately affect rural and low-income communities that rely on public broadcasting the most.
Public media is one of the few places left where commercial interests do not dictate content. Defunding these programs would only serve to weaken civic literacy, cultural awareness, and access to reliable information at a time when these are more important than ever.
I urge you to oppose any legislation that cuts funding for NPR, PBS, or CPB, and to instead champion these invaluable resources. Please stand with the millions of Americans who value public media and vote against any agenda that seeks to dismantle or privatize it.
Thank you for your service, and for your attention to this urgent matter.
