Stand with the Big Bend landowners and do everything in your power to halt this wall project permanently. A coalition of 230 landowners and Conserve Big Bend just filed a federal lawsuit (1:26-cv-03198) exposing what DHS is doing: invoking emergency powers that legally require a designation of "high illegal entry" in a sector that has recorded the fewest apprehensions of any southwest border sector for 53 consecutive years. The Big Bend Sector accounted for just 1.16% of southwest border apprehensions between 2021 and 2025. The government's own data makes this designation a fiction. This isn't just about a wall. A 30-foot steel bollard barrier through 600 miles of private ranches, ancestral burial grounds, and irreplaceable desert landscape sets a precedent for bulldozing federal protections anywhere the administration decides to manufacture an emergency. Sixty-five percent of the project footprint is private land, and owners are being threatened with eminent domain if they refuse to sign access agreements. Fifth-generation ranchers like Yolanda Alvarado stand to be cut off from family cemeteries and the Rio Grande itself. Use every legislative tool available — oversight hearings, appropriations riders, direct pressure on DHS — to stop construction before the September 30 pause expires. The landowners are already slowing this project through resistance. They need you to match that fight in Congress.
