Protect Free Speech - Vote NO on HR 867

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. LaLota

From: A constituent in Centerport, NY

May 5

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to vote NO on HR 867. It is a deeply unconstitutional bill that sets a terrifying precedent for the suppression of free speech. I know we differ on the matter of Israel’s actions in Gaza—which I, along with experts and concerned citizens the world over, believe to constitute genocide, though this is not the subject of this letter—but regardless of your beliefs about the righteousness of boycotts targeting Israel, you have to know that they are constitutionally protected actions, an expression of every person’s inalienable right to freedom of speech. As a Jew and a historian, I am deeply aware of and increasingly terrified by our country’s turn towards fascism. Please don’t help tip the scales further.
