I am a U.S.-born citizen, a person of color, and a constituent. I am writing because the actions of ICE and CBP increasingly make me fear for my own safety and the safety of my family.
Recent incidents of excessive force, racial profiling, and state-sanctioned violence by immigration enforcement have made it clear that these agencies operate with inadequate oversight and accountability. When federal agents act with impunity, constitutional rights are threatened—not just for immigrants, but for all people of color.
No one should fear being targeted, detained, or harmed by federal law enforcement because of how they look or where they live. Continued funding of ICE and CBP enables policies and practices that violate civil and human rights and undermine public trust.
I urge you to support defunding ICE and CBP and to redirect resources toward humane, rights-respecting approaches that prioritize due process, transparency, and community safety.
My family’s safety should not be collateral damage of federal policy. I ask you to act accordingly.
