Concerns Regarding Foreign Government Lobbying and Congressional Reform

To: Rep. Neal, Sen. Markey, Sen. Warren

From: A constituent in Westfield, MA

May 6

I am writing to express my concern regarding reports that approximately $700,000 in lobbying efforts tied to congressional reform related to Israel have been funded by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. My concern is not centered on any one country alone, but on the broader principle of foreign government influence in U.S. policymaking. Congressional decisions should be guided first and foremost by the interests, values, and democratic will of the American people. When a foreign ministry is directly funding lobbying efforts to shape U.S. policy, it raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and whose interests are being prioritized. This situation highlights the need for stronger safeguards. Clear disclosure of foreign-funded lobbying, stricter oversight, and reinforced ethical standards are essential to maintaining the integrity of Congress and public trust in its decisions. I urge you to support measures that: Increase transparency in lobbying disclosures Strengthen regulations on foreign government–linked lobbying efforts Ensure that policymaking remains accountable to constituents above all else This is not about opposing diplomacy or international cooperation. It is about ensuring that U.S. laws and policies are shaped by democratic processes free from undue external financial influence. Thank you for your time and consideration.
