Protect our elections

To: Sen. Collins, Sen. King, Rep. Pingree

From: A constituent in Cape Elizabeth, ME

January 29

I was deeply concerned when the Attorney General told the Governor of Minnesota that if Minnesota handed over the state voter rolls ICE would leave. First, the federal government has no jurisdiction over elections at the state level. Secondly, how could voter rolls possibly have anything to do with ICE presence in a state? Now we know that yesterday the FBI raided the Fulton County Board of Elections in Georgia taking 2020 voter rolls, ballots, and voting machine information. On its own that should be considered a five-alarm fire. But now we also have photos showing that the Director of National Intelligence was present for the search. The immediate conclusion to draw would be that the administration intends to try and string together some sort of story about foreign interference in the 2020 election. This is completely unprecedented behavior by the federal government and reeks of a corrupt intent to meddle with the midterm elections. I cannot urge you strongly enough to do whatever is in your power to reign in this government overreach and protect the free and fair election process that is the foundation of our democracy.
