Demand Removal of Stephen Miller and Impeachment for Threatening NATO Allies

To: Rep. Quigley, Sen. Durbin, Sen. Duckworth

From: A constituent in Chicago, IL

January 7

I am writing to demand that you take immediate action to remove Stephen Miller from his position as White House deputy chief of staff and initiate impeachment proceedings against President Trump for threatening military action against NATO allies. This administration's statements regarding Greenland constitute a direct threat to American national security and our democratic alliances. Stephen Miller declared on Monday that it is "the formal position of the U.S. government" that Greenland should become part of the United States. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the administration is exploring military force as an option to acquire Greenland from Denmark. This is not policy debate. This is a senior White House official advocating military aggression against a NATO member state. Denmark has been our ally for over 75 years under the NATO treaty. Article 5 of that treaty states that an armed attack against one member is an attack against all. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that U.S. military action against Denmark would end NATO. Miller and Trump are threatening to destroy the security alliance that has prevented major conflicts and protected American interests since World War II. Congress has the constitutional authority and obligation to act. Stephen Miller must be removed from his position immediately. His advocacy for military aggression against democratic allies disqualifies him from serving in any government capacity. President Trump must face impeachment for threatening military force to seize territory from an ally. This conduct violates his oath of office and endangers American security. I expect you to publicly call for Miller's removal, co-sponsor articles of impeachment, and use every legislative tool available to prevent this administration from taking military action against Denmark or any NATO member. The United States already operates a military base in Greenland. There is no legitimate justification for what Miller and Trump are proposing. This is authoritarian aggression, and Congress must stop it now.
