Oppose the cynical use of anti-transgender advertising as a political weapon. The flood of ads targeting trans people, including over $442 million in spending in the Texas Senate race alone and $100 million pledged by America PAC, is not protecting children. It is exposing them to hostility toward a group that has done nothing to harm them.
LGBTQ people have no interest in changing anyone's children. We want to protect the kids who are already LGBTQ and who are growing up in communities where these ads teach their neighbors to fear and resent them. Recent polling shows transgender issues rank dead last among voter priorities, even when voters can choose up to five top concerns. These ads serve no legitimate policy purpose. They exist to manufacture fear.
The long-term damage is real. In states where trans people already face significant barriers to safety and healthcare, saturating the airwaves with dehumanizing messaging makes daily life harder and more dangerous. Elected officials should be standing against this kind of targeted political abuse, not staying silent while it plays out on every screen in the state.
